My parents were both engaged in scientific research in the fields of genetics, microbiology and biochemistry. From an early age I spent hours in their labs doing homework, drawing, messing with harmless chemicals that, mixed in different proportions, took on various colors.

At the age of twelve I decided to become a naturalist / ethologist, and to make films about animal behaviour. My heroes, at that time, were Konrad Lorenz, Jaques Cousteau, Danilo Mainardi and David Attenborough, as well as Botticelli, Bruegel and, above all, Leonardo da Vinci, who tied together science and art.

After I got my leaving cert, my family moved to Rome. At the beginning of my university path, my father diverted me from zoology to literature, languages and arts, because “Two scientists at home are enough”.

After obtaining a Master’s degree in Foreign Languages and Literature at La Sapienza University of Rome (where I focused on English, American, Russian and French literature and Art History), I left Italy to continue my studies abroad. I passed the entrance exams at the Moscow International Film University (V. G. I. K.) in a somewhat adventurous way and the following five years were fantastic. I studied acting, script-writing, dancing, horse riding, set design and much more, I put on several stage plays and shot four films, graduating in Film, Theater and Television Direction with a parallel Master in Fine Arts and Production Design.

Upon returning to Italy, I started as an assistant, dialogue-coach and assistant-set designer on a number of films with the well-known Italian film director Pasquale Squitieri. At the same time I met Sergio Leone, who was working on a major film project about the siege of Leningrad, with Robert De Niro in the lead role. He entrusted me with the collection of visual materials on World War 2 in Russia at the Moscow film archives and, in principle, the direction of a unit (a secondary narrative line) of his film. Which, unfortunately, was never finished.

Later, I optioned the script Winter to the Merchant/Ivory Production in London and worked on a project with Ismail Merchant and James Ivory. In the same years I started making music videos and TV commercials for big US and UK advertising agencies, such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Leo Burnett, J. W. Thompson, Grey Worldwide et al., and for companies such as Hyundai, Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Hush Puppies, Ferrero and many more.

I also wrote a large number of screenplays, both in Italian and in English, some of which award winners, as well as short stories and a historical novel, L’Uomo di Carta (A man made of paper) published in Italy by Albatros Edizioni.

I worked for many years in Ireland as film director, screenwriter, art director and production designer, as well as script editor and consultant, dedicating myself more assiduously to my passion for painting, participating with my artwork in various exhibitions and art galleries.

I am a member of the National Association of Film Authors (ANAC), the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland (SDGI) and the Writers Guild of Ireland (WGI).
